My name is Ryan Eston Paul. I was born in Portland, OR, where my interest in music and sound began through classical guitar lessons and playing lead in rock bands. That interest would eventually lead me to Vancouver, BC where I began volunteering my time composing soundtracks for student films at the Vancouver Film Institute. Seeing video and audio interconnecting, and coming to life to create something cinematic and immersive, was an experience that changed my life, and it was at that moment that I decided to pursue my love of sound wholeheartedly. In 2009, I began freelancing, which lead me to compose music for feature films, commercials, network television, and eventually sound design and composition for video games.
I believe that audio and visual mediums are inseparable; one informs the other - a perspective that has benefited me greatly when working on video games. Like a painter, I merely combine "colors" to complete the picture that the visual and immersive elements of the video game has set forth. The heart of every game is a story, and without a voice, a story can not be heard. I can hear that voice, and it is my job and desire to bring it to reality. My background and experience in music and sound give me the tools to find this voice - for sure - but it is my drive and passion that enables me to find this voice when confronted by the many challenges and puzzles every new projects presents.
